You are about to enter an oasis of culture and ethnic pride called "Little Sweden, USA". Quiet, tree-lined streets... beautiful churches, and lovely Bethany College campus add to the ambiance which is Lindsborg. Lindsborg is located just off I-135 exits 72 and 78.
Swedish ties may be observed throughout the town without the gaudy over-emphasis sometimes seen in ethnic communities. This is attributable to the strong ties to those first settlers who came to the Smoky Valley with hopes of creating a community with strong academic, spiritual and artistic foundations. Those goals continue today.
Festivals based on Swedish holidays have become favorites of Swedes and non-Swedes alike. Svensk Hyllningsfest, Lucia Fest and more prairie oriented Heritage Christmas are those planned for the coming months. Details on these are found throughout this web site. The "Messiah" Festival is another favorite, in it's 126th year.

Government:
The city government of Lindsborg operates under a mayor-council system with a city administrator. The city is zoned with provisions for retail, industrial and residential areas. The city has six full-time police officers. There are twelve full-time sheriff's patrolmen in the area. Fire insurance protection class is number 4.
Health Services:
The Lindsborg Community Hospital is a modern 34-bed facility currently served by four resident doctors and a physician's assistant with a staff of specialists on call, plus a newly completed rural health clinic. The Apotek, a complete pharmacy is located within the hospital building. Bethany Home is an intermediate care facility accommodating 126 residents. There are also 50 retirement cottages adjacent to the Home. Two dentists and two chiropractors complete the list of professionals in health care. The Lindsborg Community Hospital regularly offers wellness programs, using the latest in exercise equipment and methods.
Education:
A deep concern for education among the early settlers became the foundation for the strong public school system of today (K-12) as well as for the establishment of Bethany College whose student body now numbers 600 and whose reputation is one of excellence nationally. Within 20 miles there are three more four-year colleges, one two-year college and one vo-tech school.
Business Development:
Lindsborg has two major groups interested in and actively pursuing business and industry. Smoky Valley Development Company has been instrumental in obtaining major firms here. This is a cooperative effort with local residents being stockholders in the company. Lindsborg's Chamber of Commerce has been a strong force in keeping the business climate alive in this community.
Sewer:
The sanitation plant meets EPA and KDHE effluent standards with designated capacity of 380,000 gallons per day to serve 3,800 population using an oxidation ditch, activated sludge process with provision made for the addition of another clarifier. Charges are based on monthly water usage, with average residential charges being approximately $15.80 per month.
Refuse:
McPherson County Area Solid Waste Transfer Station is used for solid waste and refuse disposal. The Transfer Station is available free of charge to an resident paying the landfill charge on taxes. Pickup in the city is provided through a contract with McPherson Area Solid Waste Utility, and charges for once-a-week pickup are $10.50 per month. Electricity:
Power is supplied through a 15-year contract with Kansas Power and Light, as well as a 15-year contract with Western Area Power Authority which will provide power to the city to offset high demand periods, and 7,200 volt and 4,160 volt primary voltages are provided through the city's distribution system. Charges are as follows: Residential $5 base plus $.075 per kwh; Commercial $8 base plus $.080 per kwh. Residential consumption of 750 kwh is $61.25, commercial consumption of 750 kwh is $68. The surrounding rural area is served by the DS&O Cooperative regional office, East K-4 Highway, Lindsborg.
Gas:
KGS gas service at 110 S Main provides gas service in and around the city of Lindsborg.
Water:
Lindsborg's water is supplied by the city from seven wells. Average daily consumption is about 495,000 gallons. Chlorine is used to assure the bacterial safety of the drinking water. Charges are as follows: 0-2,000 gallons $10, over 2,000 gallons .0025 per gallon.
Housing:
Lindsborg has a variety of housing options for residents. These range from single-family rental homes, apartment complexes or purchase of traditional two story older houses, ranch style homes, town homes or condominiums.
The community takes pride in the beautiful older homes centrally located in town and enhanced by brick streets and lovely shade trees. Lindsborg's growth has also spurred the annexation and construction of new housing developments offering both single and multiple family building sites.
Lindsborg has many different lifestyles available. The young family raising children can scarcely find a better place. The school system provides safe and high quality education. Bethany College is a vibrant 4-year school and is a major part of the community. Homes and lawns are well cared for. Health care is first rate.
