Park Guide

Lindsborg has four public parks for recreational activities.  To reserve a shelter or for more information about our parks, contact the Lindsborg Parks and Recreation Department at 785-227-3333 or 785-227-3355.  There is no cost and reservations are accepted in the order they are received.

Carlson Memorial Park
Located at Lincoln and Chestnut Streets, this park has a variety of trees and plants to attract urban wildlife.  A sidewalk was just added for walkers along Lincoln Street.

Riverside Park
This park also carries a simplified nickname from our citizens which is South Park. Riverside Park has a number of amenities, while still keeping quiet, open areas for relaxation.  A large shelter is located on the north end of the park. A hexagonal shelter built in 2001 sits near the swimming pool to accommodate smaller groups. Both shelters have electricity and grills.  Two tennis courts were resurfaced in 1998.

A full-size asphalt basketball court was added at this time, Horseshoe pits can be found on the north end of the park as well as playground equipment ideal for young children. A lovely gazebo sits at one corner of the park, next to the tennis courts. Memorial Garden is on the opposite corner. Restrooms are available Spring-Fall. A game bag with a croquet set, horseshoes, and various sport balls can be reserved at the same time as the shelter on a first come, first serve basis.

Swensson Park
Or North Park to the locals, is located along North Main Street. This is a featured site for local festivals sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. A band shell built as a WPA project in 1935 sets as a centerpiece on the east side of the park. Many times during the year, you can experience concerts, special performances, and local Broadway RFD outdoor theatre productions.

There is a gazebo on the southwest corner which many students take advantage of to study and relax. A fishpond can be found in the center of the park with a fountain built by local artist, Anton Pearson. A large shelter was built in 1999 that offers a grill, electrical outlets, and lights for evening use by patrons. The lighted tennis court was reconstructed in 1998. Adjacent to the tennis court is a basketball court where a game is almost always going on. Also available are playground equipment, a stone water fountain, and a restroom that is open Spring-Fall.

In April of 2004 over 1,500 volunteers converged on Swensson Park and built a one of a kind playground. Local school children were consulted and included in the overall design of the project. The playground was built in old fashion barn raising style. Volunteers worked five 14 hour days with donated tools. Most of the materials were donated or purchased by local individuals or companies.
Highlights of the new Viking Valley playground include a tree house, rocket ship, climbing wall and a castle. The playground has something for every age. Come visit Viking Valley! A playground designed by kids and built by a community.

Lucia Park
Our smallest park is downtown next to City Hall. Flowers, trees, and lanterns add ambience to this area. Shoppers and walkers enjoy taking a break here. A public restroom is available year-round. Also, look closely at one flowerbed for a sculpture created by local artist, Caroline Kahler, as part of the Lindsborg Arts Council’s “Art in Public Places” program.
