In keeping with the Swedish tradition, Lindsborg presents a festival honoring Lucia.  Lucia has been a symbol of light and hope to the Swedish people since the Middle Ages when she brought food to the hungry during a great famine. On December 13 she returns to herald the good news of Christmas.

The modern Lucia is the eldest daughter of the family. She rises early on the 13th. Wearing a white robe tied with a crimson sash and a crown of lighted candles, she carries a tray of cookies and sweets to each member of the family while singing the old Sicilian melody, Santa Lucia.
